chirp chirp

gosh it's been a long time since a real blog entry. my excuses include:

a trip to VA to visit the great-grandparents
Mayden being very sick for 5 days straight
Cameron being mildly sick for 1 day
starting a new job with the US Census (i've been in training since Tuesday)

that about does it.

can you believe it's already time for some hatching to occur in our house. we're expecting them to hatch Friday/Saturday (30th/1st). I've done some candling of the eggs and it looks like at least a few were developing normally. some of the eggs are pretty dark so it was hard to tell. a few looked like they weren't fertilized but i kept them in just in case i was wrong. i'd be very surprised if they all hatched like they did last time.

so today after work & dinner i took the kids to Tractor Supply Co. to pick up some much needed chickie supplies.

and it's a good thing because tonight after i put the kids to bed i heard our first little chirp coming from one of these eggs! stay tuned for hatching news this weekend!

the art of wish making

just something about that field

for the last few weeks the kids and i have been going on an after dinner bike ride down the lane. it's been wonderful and i'm sure this summer (when this time will be the coolest part of the day) this will be my favorite part the day. we don't get too far down the lane when we have to stop and pick flowers & weeds, watch ants, help a caterpillar cross the lane safely. and it never fails that Cameron ends up in the field. and there he stays for a very long time. walking, squatting, walking some more, squatting some more..... and so on. 

reminds me a certain little boy who could sit and sit in a cornfield.....

Mayden's eye - May goes SLR

my new digital SLR camera is strictly hands off for the kids.... normally. she asked so nicely today and Cameron was far far away messing around in the field (blog about that soon) so i thought it was safe to hand it over for a few snap shots. unfortunately i was the only subject but these are her first couple SLR photos. not bad :o)

maybe someday they'll start a band

Project Hatch - year 2!

we've started incubating 12 eggs again this year. their due date is around April 24th. we'll keep you posted on any progress! you can find more egg pictures here.

Mayden's Eye: teaching Cameron

we have a new photographer in the house! Cameron's been interested in the camera for a long time. he's known how to turn it off & on for a while but could not master holding the shutter button down long enough to get a picture. Mayden's recently been trying to teach him how and he's finially gotten it!

here's the process of the teaching caught on camera. we'll see more of Cameron's work later

his aim was a little off in the beginning so she had to stick her head wherever he happened to be pointing the camera in order to get in the shot!
