The Creative Family: how to encourage imagination & nurture family connections

i've been really excited to read this book since i discovered it's existence a month ago. i wasn't disappointed! there are so many great ideas packed in here! i've already implemented a few gems and have big plans for others. if you're in a rut (like i was) this is a real motivator! the author has a blog w/ just as much good stuff in it. beautiful all around!!

book #4 of 2009

The Road

for a few years now Chris and i have been going to B&N for Valentine's day and picking out a book for each other. this year we picked two books for each other! this was one of the books he choose for me.

it's really hard to say that this is a great book. it's kind of like saying Schindler's List was a great movie. i mean it was but you never want to watch it again from the sheer agony you go through during the journey. the author's writing style was a bit hard to get into at first. there are absolutely no quotation marks anywhere however the unnamed characters talk to each other frequently. at some points it did seem to drag on a bit and get slightly repetitious but all in all the story was very interesting... in a haunting kind of way!

good news... this book has recently been made into a movie starring Viggo Mortensen.
bad news... i can't imagine this is going to be a pleasant movie. yikes!

refrigerator peek-a-boo!

leaves: day one

last year i was struck by how fast the leaves seemed to appear on the trees -- one day the trees were barren then out of seemingly nowhere we had full sized leaves!! so i told myself that this year i'd document their arrival. there are 3 trees in our yard that i am watching and will take pictures of every other day (weather permitting). the frequency of this documentation could be painful but i think once it's finished it will be really cool to see this unfold.

snow in March!

last weekend our area was warned of a major snow storm to hit Sunday night into Monday. being the snow lover that i am, i got very excited about the predicted 6 - 10 inches of white stuff that was to blanket our yard! i set out to make this experience even better by taking everyone to my parents house (where they have a giant fireplace, too many rooms to count & a nice big hill nearby) to weather the storm. i invited 6 other people to join in the fun. i was envisioning a long night of fireside board game play while kiddos were tucked snugly in bed. i could taste the hot coco & see all the beds filled w/ bodies... in reality it was just us (and Shawn & my parents), we only got 5-6 inches at best & Mayden wasn't feeling well BUT it was still a lot of fun.

Cameron: life update

it's been a while since i've written about the kids and what they are up to. i know looking back years from now i will be grateful to have these memories. those baby days are fading fast so the more info i write down the better!

Cameron, better known as Camo these days, is such a bright light in our lives. he makes me want to have more kids! that's not to say that we haven't seen his temper (because believe me, we have!) but in general he's a sweetie pie to the 10th degree!

Cameron loves: pretzel rods, his sister, pooping (he does this a minimum of 3x a day), batman, saying "dada", growling, being chased around the house, snuggling, reading books, tickles, his stuffed pig 'Hamlet', playing on his sisters bed, spinach quiche, watching tv 3 inches from the screen, playing at Cole's house, getting into things, trains, howling dogs on youtube,

Cameron does not love: brushing his teeth, long car rides, saying "mama", socks, learning to talk, peas, walking in snow boots, playing with toys, diaper changes, coming inside from playing outside, waiting his turn,

he's grown so much in the last year and 1/2. i can't believe he's going to be 2 in a few months (don't even get me started on Mayden turning 4 this year). it just doesn't seem possible! i am really looking forward to warmer weather coming so that i can spend more time with him outside. i know he will be my little outside buddy this summer. while i do miss my babies i also really love watching them change & grow into free thinking people. i am so anxious to see who these little humans become! but right now i'm really excited for him to start talking so i can know what's going on behind those bright eyes.

this weekend i was able to get some really good shots of Cameron. you can see them all here and here are some of him reading himself a book.
